I was immediately drawn to Gustave Doré’s work the first time I saw it because I implement similar visual themes into my artwork as well. I love to portray a beautiful side to darkness in my artwork and show very raw and vulnerable human forms. “The Inferno, Canto 5” is a romantic engraving print created by Doré that I was drawn to recreate in the form of a drawing using a combination of graphite and charcoal.
